Kate Vennell

Co-CEO of Mindful Money

Kate is a financial services professional with a career spanning both the UK and New Zealand with a focus on strategies for better outcomes across life and wealth management, advice, and digital technology.  Kate witnessed the rapid evolution of responsible investment and sustainable business practices during her time in the UK.   She observed how it transformed from a niche approach to a mainstream practice for both retail and institutional investors.  As Head of Investor Relations for Legal & General, she helped explain innovation by L&G in investments for community housing and green infrastructure.

In 2020, after returning to NZ she met Barry Coates and his exciting goals for Mindful Money; to make money a force for good and to help kiwis align their investments with their values.  She became a trustee and has worked behind the scenes supporting Barry, Karen, Olive and the team, including undertaking research on human rights issues.  Her passion for ethical finance and concern for the consequences of climate change extends beyond theory; she considers herself an ethical investor, aligning her choices with her values.  Her dedication to social impact extends beyond financial markets holding governance roles in several organisations, each making great contributions to people and communities in Aotearoa.
