RIAA has developed guidance to support consistent and transparent interpretation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) alignment within the Responsible Investment Certification Program.
This work reflects the growing use of SDG-related claims, labels and disclosures across investment products, and the corresponding need for clarity on how these are assessed under the Responsible Investment Standard. The guidance is intended to support product providers in making clear, substantiated and decision-useful SDG-related statements, while promoting consistency in assessment outcomes.
Informed by RIAA’s experience and engagement with market participants, the guidance provides practical direction on evidencing SDG alignment, distinguishing between different types of claims, and ensuring that SDG references are meaningful and proportionate.
As with all aspects of the Certification Program, SDG alignment will continue to be assessed on a case-by-case basis, with regard to product design, portfolio construction and disclosure practices.
The guidance will be launched at the RIAA Conference Aotearoa NZ on 22 September 2026. Find out more.
