How can investors engage with companies to prevent and address human rights abuses? RIAA's Human Rights Working Group is an initiative to support members in their stewardship responsibilities respecting human rights in their business operations and their portfolio of companies.
The Human Rights Working Group is a way for RIAA members to come together in the interests of building members’ understanding and capabilities for assessing and respecting human rights and mitigating human risks in investment; facilitating the sharing of leading practice knowledge and resources pertaining to human rights and investment decision-making and engagement; and designing and delivering significant human rights research, implementation and advocacy opportunities as relevant, through collaborating with other RIAA working groups and industry forums.
In line with the member priorities set out in the 2026 workplan, this meeting will feature a session on From Human Rights to Systemic Risk: Understanding Inequality and Decent Work. We’ll hear from Ashley Kopczynski, Jane Wu, Dr Lauren Solomon-Walters and Diana Santibanez on how inequality and decent work sit within the international human rights framework, why these issues matter for investors, and how human rights impacts can translate into business, economic and investment outcomes. The session will also include a member discussion facilitated by Antonia Parkes on the implications for investor stewardship, engagement and human rights due diligence.
This will be followed by the working group’s regular agenda items, including updates from industry, subgroups, and RIAA’s policy and advocacy work.

Ashley leads IFM’s company engagement and stewardship activities on behalf of the Australian listed equities portfolios, including being a key contributor to the IFM voting determination for Australian equity holdings. Ashley also works with IFM investment teams to strengthen ESG integration into investment processes. Ashley brings significant investment experience to IFM, having spent more than a decade in the Janus Henderson Australian Fixed Interest team as a Credit Analyst and later an Associate Portfolio Manager – Credit & ESG. In these roles, Ashley had responsibility for company engagement and the integration of ESG factors into company analysis as well as portfolio construction. He commenced his financial services career in 2001 at corporate superannuation provider Plum Financial Services. Ashley is Co‑Chair of the RIAA (Responsible Investment Association Australasia) Human Rights Working Group.

Dr Lauren Solomon Walters leads enterprise-wide sustainability at Perpetual Limited and is a co-founder of Seedling, a worker led climate health initiative developed with Cambodian unions, labour rights organisations, and Australian universities. Lauren brings deep expertise in human rights and labour dynamics, informed by extensive fieldwork with garment workers and civil society organisations.

Diana Santibañez is a Chilean-born investment professional and CEO of Professional Migrant Women (PMW), an Australian certified social enterprise supporting skilled migrant women to achieve career progression, leadership opportunities and professional recognition.
With a background in economics and finance, Diana has over 17 years of experience across investment management, asset consulting and sustainable investing, working with leading Australian and International investment organisations. She is passionate about responsible investment, diversity and inclusion, and creating more equitable opportunities in the workplace.
Since migrating to Australia in 2014, Diana has combined her professional expertise with her lived experience as a migrant to advocate for the contribution and advancement of culturally diverse women. Through her leadership at PMW, she works to build stronger networks, develop future leaders and support migrant women to thrive in their careers.
