How can investors engage with companies to prevent and address human rights abuses? RIAA's Human Rights Working Group is an initiative to support members in their stewardship responsibilities respecting human rights in their business operations and their portfolio of companies.

The Human Rights Working Group is a way for RIAA members to come together in the interests of building members’ understanding and capabilities for assessing and respecting human rights and mitigating human risks in investment; facilitating the sharing of leading practice knowledge and resources pertaining to human rights and investment decision-making and engagement; and designing and delivering significant human rights research, implementation and advocacy opportunities as relevant, through collaborating with other RIAA working groups and industry forums.

The focus of the second Human Rights Working Group meeting of 2025 will be on Navigating the Future of Supply Chain Sustainability: Insights on ESG Regulation, Transparency, and Technology.

To explore this, we're pleased to be joined by Alexander Walrut, Head of Office for JANZ at Sedex, a global supply chain sustainability data exchange and social compliance audit platform, where he has worked for five years. Prior to this he was involved in the Australian startup community, firstly in as a fintech and regtech co-founder, before moving into cap intro for startups and fund managers. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney.

In his presentation, Alex will share key insights and trends emerging from Sedex's global work - including the evolving landscape of ESG regulation, rising expectations around supply chain transparency, and how businesses are using technology and data to manage risk, enhance compliance, and drive sustainable impact across their operations.

After this presentation, Estelle Parker will join us, putting forward a motion to nominate the Co-Chair of the Human Rights Working Group.

This will then be followed by the regular meeting items including updates from the subgroups (including an update on progress with the Human Rights and Value Chains toolkit) and RIAA's policy and advocacy work.
