Commonwealth Treasury

Ben's people are the Gija from Halls Creek in Western Australia. Ben has worked to increase the role Commonwealth Treasury plays in the First Nations space and has driven the application of an economic lens to First Nations policy. He strongly views sound economic principles underpinning all policies directed to First Nations people and has successfully overseen the development of the First Nations Policy Unit within Treasury to achieve this goal. This approach will increase the success of policies and increase the ability of First Nations people to achieve economic growth and generate wealth. Ben has worked in Treasury on a range of issues ranging from international economics to foreign investment to market conduct before moving into the FNPU in May 2023. Prior to joining Treasury, he worked for the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation as an intelligence officer dealing with a range of domestic and international security issues.
