Most investors understand that modern slavery is a material human rights, regulatory, reputational and investment risk. As modern slavery legislation gains momentum and stakeholder expectations continue to evolve globally, institutional investors are increasingly expected to understand, assess and respond to modern slavery risk across portfolios, supply chains and investment relationships. But doing so without a legislative baseline, as has been the case in New Zealand, is difficult, costly and a barrier to attracting green capital.
This session explores the investor role in both shaping the policy environment and driving better market outcomes. Join us as we first bring together the policymakers behind New Zealand's bipartisan Modern Slavery Bill to explain why investor voices matter in building support for effective public policy. We then bring together leading voices to focus on practical implementation, effective ways that investors can identify, assess and respond to modern slavery risks through stewardship, manager selection, engagement and portfolio oversight.

Rachel is the co-chair of RIAA&'s Aotearoa Collaborative Working Group and Head of Responsible Investment at Fisher Funds. Previously, she was the Head of Responsible Investment at Mint Asset Management and Sustainable Investment Analyst at Milford Asset Management where she implemented and maintained their sustainable investing framework. Rachel holds a double degree in Bachelor of Laws & Bachelor of Business from AUT University, and is an Enrolled Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.

Camilla is a Labour List MP and Spokesperson for Justice and Public Services. She has previously chaired the Education and Workforce Committee and the Governance and Administration Committee. Camilla has had three member’s bills pass in her name and is currently working on the cross-party Modern Slavery Bill that passed its First Reading on 27 April 2026.

Catherine is the Head of Sustainability at Woolworths New Zealand, and has nearly 20 years experience delivering ambitious sustainability programmes across diverse business sectors in the UK and New Zealand. At Woolworths New Zealand, she is responsible for the local delivery of Woolworths’ Trans-Tasman sustainability programme, which encompasses circularity, climate and nature, health and nutrition, human rights and social impact.

Matthew joined Acadian Asset Management (Australia) Limited in 2007. He is based in Sydney and serves as a Senior Portfolio Manager on the Global Portfolio Management Team. Matthew has been a key driver of the development and management of a range of equity strategies across the region. Amongst broader portfolio management contributions, Matthew has contributed significantly to ESG research and implementation at Acadian for many years. He is a senior member of Acadian's Responsible Investing Committee, a member of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA) Policy and Advocacy Technical Expert Group, and has previously sat on the PRI Australian Advisory Committee. Prior to joining Acadian, Matthew worked as an investment analyst focusing on renewables within the Global Resources Team at Colonial First State Global Asset Management. He has also held roles at CFS Firstchoice and Commonwealth Bank Institutional Banking (Natural Resources). Matthew is a CFA charterholder.
