Rātā Foundation, formerly The Canterbury Community Trust, established in 1988, led by a board of 12 trustees who bring leadership and expertise across a wide range of disciplines. As the South Island’s largest philanthropic funder, Rātā Foundation receives no income from other funders or gaming machines making it unique and independent in the region’s philanthropic community. Over the last three decades we have assisted hundreds of organisations through grants totalling over $434 million to help communities in need. This equates across our four funding regions - $333 million in Canterbury, $66 million in Nelson, $33 million in Marlborough and $0.5 million in the Chatham Islands. Today we are guardians of over $600 million endowment or putea, making around $20 million in grants per annum.
