People drive Australia’s wonderful ultimate renewable forestry and wood products industry. And the Gottstein Trust is all about people – its flagship range of annual grants fund capacity building for individuals - and through that help to advance the whole industry. The Joseph William Gottstein Memorial Trust Fund is a unique national educational trust fund that began in 1971. Fifty years on - it continues to provide unique opportunities for professional development, learning and networking.$1.4 million has been awarded to individuals to pursue their projects to support their study or support their skill development. 151 Fellowships have been awarded – most entailing an overseas study tour. Many Gottstein Fellowship alumni members occupy leadership roles in industry and in research. Seven governing Trustees are responsible for managing the trust’s funds and they determine who will receive the annual Gottstein Fellowships, Scholarships and Skill Development grants. The Trust collaborates with industry and topic experts to deliver tailored courses and field trips. The courses particularly enable people who are new to the sector to gain knowledge and build their network. The week-long courses provide a rich introduction to the sector its vital role in contemporary society - as a low-emissions and carbon storing fibre.
