For over 50 years, ACC has provided a no-fault accident insurance scheme that is almost unique in the world. ACC’s Investment Fund was established about 30 years ago to help meet the future costs of these accidents and now stands at about NZ$47 billion. Over this time, the Fund has achieved average annual returns of more than 9%. The Fund is distinctly different from sovereign wealth funds because it is an asset-liability manager, acting as a hedge against ACC’s outstanding claims liability.
