How we evaluate products

Responsible Investment strategies, processes, practices and disclosures are assessed against the eight criteria for product certification in the Responsible Investment Standard and accompanying Guidance and Assessment Notes.

What this symbol means

General certification: This Symbol signifies that a product or service offers an investment style that takes into account environmental, social, governance or ethical considerations, and that it adheres to the operational and disclosure practices required under the Responsible Investment Certification Program for the category of Product.

Sustainable Plus classification: This Symbol signifies that a product or service has been certified and classified to offer an investment style that takes into account environmental, social, governance or ethical considerations, with embedded, measurable and reported sustainability objectives aligned with portfolio holdings and stewardship practices, adhering to the operational and disclosure practices required under the Responsible Investment Certification Program for the category of Product.

Description

The GEO option comprises allocation to global equities and infrastructure and private equity assets (which may include assets under development), whose business activities seek to address current and emerging environmental issues and opportunities.


Environmental themes the Option addresses remain unchanged and include businesses, products, services, infrastructure and technology (including emerging technologies) related to:
• alternative energy – supporting or providing components for renewable energy, alternative fuels and electrification
• energy efficiency – supporting the maximisation of productivity with the aim to reduce energy consumption
• sustainable water – supporting or providing components for addressing water scarcity and water quality issues
• green building – contributing to sustainable buildings, design, construction, redevelopment, or retrofitting aimed at improving energy efficiency, climate change mitigation or adaptation
• pollution prevention – aiming to reduce and/or prevent pollutants, waste and emissions

• sustainable agriculture – supporting or providing components which aim to improve efficiency, address biodiversity loss, pollution, land disturbance, and water overuse

• other – seeking to deliver solutions to an environmentally sustainable economy including emerging technologies supporting a transitioning economy.

To qualify for inclusion in the GEO Option, the below asset classes must have:

1. Listed Equities: Portfolio to maintain a minimum 50% environmental weighted average revenue (EWAR), with each security to have a minimum 20% environmental revenue.

2. Infrastructure and private equity assets (which may include development assets): business activities which seek to address current and emerging environmental issues and opportunities.

The aim is for at least 50% of the Option to be aligned to the strategy..
