ELM Responsible Investments is a Melbourne based boutique investment firm focused on sustainable and ethical, long-term investments. The ELM Responsible Investments Global Fund is a concentrated portfolio our best global ideas: we combined our Sustainability Framework (guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and IMP Five Dimensions of Impact) with our Investment Framework that includes traditional financial models and analytical methods, with an emphasis on identifying high-quality companies. Through this process we construct a portfolio typically between 10-30 companies that are facilitating the transition to a more sustainable world.

The Elm Responsible Investments (ELMRI) Global Fund invests in innovative growth companies that are striving for positive change and delivering social and environmental outcomes, whilst also aiming to achieve strong returns for investors.

We invest in global listed securities, typically in mid and large cap companies. We aim to outperform the MSCI World Accumulation Index in Australian Dollars (Benchmark) on a net of fees basis. We have a long-term investment horizon of 5-7 years, taking concentrated long-only positions without reference to the Benchmark. Therefore the returns of the Fund may differ significantly from the returns of the Benchmark.

The ELMRI Global Fund is unhedged, and is a long-only, fully invested equities strategy, with low cash levels typically <5% of the portfolio value. The cash levels may vary depending on available investment opportunities as well as the liquidity needs of the Fund. The Global Fund is not permitted to invest in derivatives, borrow cash, or short-sell securities.

Our strategy is to identify stocks following ELMRI’s proprietary Investment and Sustainability Frameworks. The Investment Framework is focused on identifying high-quality companies with compelling investment return prospects. The Sustainability Framework is guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the Impact Management Project’s 5 Dimensions of Impact. Through this process we focus on identifying companies that make a positive contribution to the environment, society and all other stakeholders.

By following these frameworks, we believe we can construct a portfolio that targets strong returns for clients whilst also investing in companies that facilitate the transition to a more sustainable future.
