WHERE DO I START?

There is a sophisticated range of products and services for individuals wishing to invest in line with their values – from ethical bank accounts to responsible investment superannuation and managed funds.

As an individual investor there are many ways to make sure that your investments do not harm society or the environment. You may choose to:

See a financial adviser who specialises in responsible investment:

Specialist advisers offer all of the services of a mainstream adviser, but can also assist you to align your financial goals with your values and beliefs.

You may like some detailed informaiton on how an adviser can help you.  Alternatively, you might like to see a list of specialist financial advisers who are members of RIAA, or you may wish to see a list of Financial Advisers who are Certified by RIAA.

Invest some or all of your super in a responsible investment super fund or option.

The Responsible Investment Super Centre will be available very soon, and will provide an extensive list of Superannuation funds that offer a responsible investment member option.  Detailed information about Super Funds reveals their responsible investment approach, member options, investment managers and assets under management.  You may want to search for specialist superannuation funds who are members of RIAA or superannuation funds who have been certified by RIAA.

Invest directly with a responsible investment fund or funds.

Find out more and view a list of specialist fund managers who are members of RIAA or find out which fund managers are certified by RIAA.

Open a savings account with a socially responsible bank or take out a green loan for your car or home.

Look for community banks and credit unions who are members of RIAA.

Invest directly in companies with strong corporate social responsibility practices.

Research smaller companies commonly held in responsible investment funds.  For example, these can be found in Ethical Investor Magazine. As a shareholder, you can have your say about a company’s corporate conduct through voting with your shares.
